📖 Reusable sections in instructions

Use "Sections" to standardize and streamline recurring work steps.

🔹 Overview

When managing large sets of work instructions, it’s common to have repeating sequences of steps (e.g. components or work routines) across multiple instructions.
Instead of copying and maintaining these steps in each instruction, you can now use Sections – reusable mini-instructions – that simplify your process and reduce redundancy.

Why Use Sections?

🔹 Reduce Maintenance Effort – Change a section once, and it updates everywhere (if linked to active revision).
🔹 Standardize Workflows – Reuse validated step groups across similar instructions.
🔹 Increase Flexibility – Choose whether to reuse the current or a fixed revision of a section.
🔹 No Disruption to Existing Instructions – Sections are optional and won’t affect legacy setups.

🔀 Step-by-step guide

Step 1️⃣: Create a reusable Section
  1. Navigate to Work Instruction Management
  2. Create a new section
    1. Click the dropdown icon on the "Create" Button
    2. Select "Section"
  3. Create content for the "Section" exactly like a normal instruction
    1. Include steps
    2. Section name
    3. Images, Media etc.
  4. Save and publish the Section

Optional: Flag an existing Work Instruction as a Section

  1. Navigate to Work Instruction Management
  2. Select a work instruction
  3. Click the gear icon (⚙️) and activate the flag:
    1. “Reusable as Section in Other Instructions”

📌 This turns your instruction into a reusable section.

Optional Step 2️⃣: Make a Section visible in the manufacturing list

  1. If you want the Section to be executed independently as a mini-instruction:
  2. Navigate to the gear icon
  3. Set the flag "show in manufacturing"
  4. Save

📌 The section is now visible in the manufacturing list and can be executed independently.

Step 3️⃣: Insert a Section into another Instruction
  1. Open the target instruction
  2. Add a new element via “Add Section”
  3. Select the desired section from the list
  4. Choose between:
    1.  ✔ Always use the current (active) revision, or
    2.  ✔ Lock to a fixed revision

📌 Section steps will now appear like regular steps during execution.

Step 4️⃣: Execute a work instruction or Section
  1. Navigate to manufacturing
  2. Select the instruction or section you want to execute
  3. Press "Play"

👷 During execution:
  • The section’s steps are shown inline as part of the main instruction
  • Workers won’t notice a difference between native and section steps
  • Traceability and data collection remain fully functional

📌 If a section is flagged with “Show in Manufacturing”, it can also be executed independently as a mini-instruction.

Step 5️⃣: When Should You Use Sections?

For recurring processes – E.g., safety checks, tool setup, cleaning procedures
For role-based instructions – E.g., supervisor steps reused across stations
For modular assembly instructions – Build larger flows using small building blocks
For controlled updates – Centralize updates in one section and reflect across instructions

Best Practices for Section Management

✔ Use descriptive titles – Helps identify sections during reuse
✔ Document purpose and scope inside each section
✔ Decide on revision strategy – Choose current vs. fixed revision based on your change policy
✔ Test the section in preview mode before publishing it into live instructions
