πŸ”Ή Overview

Line production is a manufacturing process where a product moves sequentially from one workstation to another, with each station
performing a specific task. Setago allows you to digitally structure and optimize your line production, ensuring efficiency, traceability, and reduced setup time.

Why Use Line Production in Setago?

πŸ”Ή Reduce Setup Time – Standardized processes across stations prevent inconsistencies.
πŸ”Ή Improve Traceability – Track product progress at each step in real time.
πŸ”Ή Increase Production Speed – Automated step-by-step workflows reduce errors and delays.

πŸ”€ Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1️⃣: Define Your Workstations in Setago

  1. Navigate to Work Area Management.
  2. Create a main production line (e.g., "Line 1").
  3. Add multiple workstations under this line (e.g., "Station 10", "Station 20", "Station 30").
  4. Assign relevant hardware (Pick-by-Light sensors, screwdrivers, etc.) to each workstation.

πŸ“Œ Tip: Clearly name workstations based on their function to keep your production structured.

Step 2️⃣: Create and define your identifying data set

  1. Navigate to Element Management > Data sets
  2. Switch to the data element tab
  3. Create a data element
    • Configure your data element with templates or manually
    • Mark it as "Is key identifier"
  4. Save data element
  5. Create data set
    • Assign the identifying data element
  6. Save data set

πŸ“Œ Tip: For line production we recommend to set up the identifying data element as a serial number. For this select "Only digits" with custom validations.

Step 3️⃣: Create a Work Instruction for Line Production

  1. Navigate to Work Instruction Management.
  2. Click "Create New Work Instruction".
  3. Define the process name (e.g., "Assemble Product X").
  4. Add an External ID (e.g., product number) for barcode scanning.
  5. Navigate to first step.
  6. Add the identifying data set by clicking "add element".
  7. Assign the relevant workstations to the instruction.

πŸ“Œ Tip: The identifying data set does not have to be in the first step. But it has to be within a step which is completed at the first work station.

Step 4️⃣: Configure Steps for Each Workstation

  1. Each step of the work instruction represents a task at a workstation.
  2. Open the Work Instruction Editor.
  3. Add steps.
  4. Add "Auto Pause" in each step after which the work station has to be changed. (e.g. steps 1-5 shall be done in workstation 10, whereas steps 6-10 in workstation 20. Add Auto Pause in step 5.)

πŸ“Œ Tip: Use barcode scanning of the product number to automatically start the correct instruction.

Step 5️⃣: How to Start a Line Production in Setago

  1. Configure single production or line production in the settings.
  2. Select your workstation.
  3. Scan the external ID of the work instruction (e.g. product number).
  4. Perform the steps of the work instruction.
  5. Record the identifying data set in the relevant step (e.g. serial number in step 1)
  6. Confrim the steps and execute the work instruction until the first auto pause.

πŸ“Œ Tip: Use Pick-by-Light or sensor technology to guide workers through their tasks visually.

Step 6️⃣: Find and proceed Work Instruction

  1. Now that the work instruction is paused at the first work station
  2. Move to the next work station (different user/ computer)
  3. Scan the previously entered identifying data set (e.g. serial number)
  4. The work instruction is continued from the last paused step.
  5. Complete work instruction until next auto pause or finish.

πŸ“Œ Tip: There are different ways to depict a line production. Some use a different user/ computer for each work station. Others take a tablet with them from work station to work station. Keep in mind to change the selected work station before continuing the process.

βœ… Best Practices for Line Production Setup

βœ” Keep Workstations Organized – Assign clear step names and work areas.
βœ” Automate Where Possible – Use barcode scanning and sensors for efficiency.
βœ” Test the Workflow – Run a trial before full implementation.
