πΉ Overview
Line production is a manufacturing process where a product moves sequentially from one workstation to another, with each station
performing a specific task. Setago allows you to digitally structure and
optimize your line production, ensuring efficiency, traceability, and
reduced setup time.
Why Use Line Production in Setago?
πΉ Reduce Setup Time β Standardized processes across stations prevent inconsistencies.
πΉ Improve Traceability β Track product progress at each step in real time.
πΉ Increase Production Speed β Automated step-by-step workflows reduce errors and delays.
π Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1οΈβ£: Define Your Workstations in Setago
- Navigate to Work Area Management.
- Create a main production line (e.g., "Line 1").
- Add multiple workstations under this line (e.g., "Station 10", "Station 20", "Station 30").
- Assign relevant hardware (Pick-by-Light sensors, screwdrivers, etc.) to each workstation.
π Tip: Clearly name workstations based on their function to keep your production structured.

Step 2οΈβ£: Create and define your identifying data set
- Navigate to Element Management > Data sets
- Switch to the data element tab
- Create a data element
- Configure your data element with templates or manually
- Mark it as "Is key identifier"
- Save data element
- Create data set
- Assign the identifying data element
- Save data set
π Tip: For line production we recommend to set up the identifying data element as a serial number. For this select "Only digits" with custom validations.

Step 3οΈβ£: Create a Work Instruction for Line Production
- Navigate to Work Instruction Management.
- Click "Create New Work Instruction".
- Define the process name (e.g., "Assemble Product X").
- Add an External ID (e.g., product number) for barcode scanning.
- Navigate to first step.
- Add the identifying data set by clicking "add element".
- Assign the relevant workstations to the instruction.
π Tip: The identifying data set does not have to be in the first step. But it has to be within a step which is completed at the first work station.

Step 4οΈβ£: Configure Steps for Each Workstation
- Each step of the work instruction represents a task at a workstation.
- Open the Work Instruction Editor.
- Add steps.
- Add "Auto Pause" in each step after which the work station has to be changed. (e.g. steps 1-5 shall be done in workstation 10, whereas steps 6-10 in workstation 20. Add Auto Pause in step 5.)
π Tip: Use barcode scanning of the product number to automatically start the correct instruction.

Step 5οΈβ£: How to Start a Line Production in Setago
- Configure single production or line production in the settings.
- Select your workstation.
- Scan the external ID of the work instruction (e.g. product number).
- Perform the steps of the work instruction.
- Record the identifying data set in the relevant step (e.g. serial number in step 1)
- Confrim the steps and execute the work instruction until the first auto pause.
π Tip: Use Pick-by-Light or sensor technology to guide workers through their tasks visually.

Step 6οΈβ£: Find and proceed Work Instruction
- Now that the work instruction is paused at the first work station
- Move to the next work station (different user/ computer)
- Scan the previously entered identifying data set (e.g. serial number)
- The work instruction is continued from the last paused step.
- Complete work instruction until next auto pause or finish.
π Tip: There are different ways to depict a line production. Some use a different user/ computer for each work station. Others take a tablet with them from work station to work station. Keep in mind to change the selected work station before continuing the process.

β Best Practices for Line Production Setup
β Keep Workstations Organized β Assign clear step names and work areas.
β Automate Where Possible β Use barcode scanning and sensors for efficiency.
β Test the Workflow β Run a trial before full implementation.
