📖 Integrate Barcode Scanners to Start Instructions

Integrating barcode scanners allows workers to quickly access and execute work instructions without manual searching. With a simple scan, the system can identify the correct instruction, select the right variant, and begin the process automatically.

To find the right work instruction a barcode is linked to the work instruction using the External ID field.

Step 1️⃣: Assign an External ID

1. Navigate to Work Instruction Management.
2. Select or create a Work Instruction.
3. In the General Settings, find the External ID field.
4. Enter a unique identifier (e.g., product number, instruction code).
5. Save the work instruction.

📌 Tip: Use standardized product numbers or existing company IDs for consistency.

Step 2️⃣: Configure Manufacturing Dashboard for the Scan

1. In the Manufacturing Dashboard settings can be pre-selected, which are also applied to the barcode scan
2. Selected work station
3. Selected language
4. Selected execution mode
• One time execution
• Batch production (the worker has to select number of executions)
• Line production (the worker has to select number of executions)

📌 Tip: These settings have to be applied only once per user/ workstation and will be saved until changed manually.

Step 3️⃣: How to Start a Work Instruction with a Barcode

1. Scan the barcode using a connected scanner.
2. The system searches for the matching External ID.
3. If a match is found, the work instruction automatically opens.
4. If Batch or Line Production is selected, the worker has to select the number of executions to be carried out.
5. If variants exist, the worker selects the correct one before execution.

📌 Tip: For even faster processing, link barcodes directly to specific variants.

Step 4️⃣: Evaluate more use cases

You can use the barcode integration to use additional actions, such as:
