πΉ Overview
Managing large inventories can be time-consuming if articles are added
one by one. With the bulk import feature, you can quickly upload a list
of articles, including names, numbers and various attributes such as
descriptions, and stock levels.
Why Use Bulk Import for Articles?
πΉ Speed Up Setup β Upload hundreds of articles in seconds.
πΉ Avoid Manual Errors β Reduce the risk of typos and inconsistencies.
πΉ Ensure Data Consistency β Standardize article information across all work instructions.
π Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1οΈβ£: Prepare Your Import File
- Navigate to Element
Management > Articles - Download the CSV template by
exporting the existing list - Format your CSV file to match required fields
- The row "ambos_article_id" is left blank, as this is the identifier our system assigns automatically
- The row ambos_article_number is used to give the article an article number (e.g. from you ERP system)
- The row ambos_name contains the article name that should be diplayed within the app
- Every row after that is optional, to fill out additional article attributes. (e.g. article color, article weight, second identifier, distributor number etc.)
π Tip: Always export an article list first to ensure correct formatting before import. The first three rows have to be in the same order and with the exact naming, as they are obligatory fields.

StepΒ 2οΈβ£:
- Click on "Import Article List"
- Select what should happen if
an article pre-exists for an article number or ID. One can select from: - Skip pre-existing articles
- Overwrite articles with new information
- Ask for each article
- Upload the CSV file and confirm the import
π Tip: Duplicate article numbers within the same import file, lead to an error. Make sure your import file has the right values, before overwriting existing articles.

Step 3οΈβ£ Updating Existing Articles via Import
If an article in your CSV file has the same article number as an existing one, the system will:
β
Update the articleβs details (e.g., name, description, stock).
β
Preserve existing assignments (e.g., linked work instructions).
π Tip: To avoid accidental overwrites, double-check article numbers before importing.
Best Practices for Bulk Import
β Use a Consistent Format β Standardize naming conventions for easy tracking.
β Check for Duplicates β Avoid importing the same article multiple times.
β Backup Your Data β Keep a local copy of the CSV file before making large changes.
