πŸ”Ή Overview

Integrating barcode scanners allows workers to find and resume specific ongoing/ paused processes. With a simple scan, the system can identify the correct process begin it automatically.
This enables a consistent traceability record of instructions, which are executed across multiple work stations.

πŸ”€ Step-by-Step Guide

To find the right ongoing process a barcode is linked to a data element, which has been marked as "Key identifier".

Step 1️⃣: Create data element as key identifier

  1. Navigate to Element Management
  2. Select or create a data element.
  3. After configuring your data element mark it as a key identifier.
  4. Save the data element.
  5. Match it with a data set.

πŸ“Œ Tip: Use identifiers which are unique for one process/ execution of the work instruction (e.g. serial number of the part that is being produced)

Step 2️⃣: Include identifying data set into work instruction

  1. Navigate to Management > Work Instruction
  2. Select or create a work instruction
  3. Navigate to a specific step
  4. Click "add element"
  5. Switch to data-sets on the upper right corner
  6. Select your identifying data set
  7. Optional: Select auto-pause for steps, where you want the work instruction to be paused automatically and continued on a different work station.

πŸ“Œ Tip: Include the identifying data set in a step, that will be completed before the first pause/ transition to a different work station. If auto-pauses are not wished, the worker can pause the instruction manually on the upper right corner during execution.

Step 3️⃣: How to continue a paused/ an ongoing instruction via Barcode Scan

  1. Scan the barcode with the identifying element (e.g. serial number) using a connected scanner.
  2. The system searches for paused or ongoing processes with the exact identifying value.
  3. If a match is found, the work instruction automatically opens.
  4. The work instruction continues where left previously.

πŸ“Œ Tip: If the work instruction does not open automatically, one can look up ongoing/ paused processes and see their identifying elements. Look up if a process with your barcode value exists.

Best Practices for Barcode Integration

βœ… Use Durable Barcode Labels – Ensure long-term readability in industrial environments.
βœ… Test Before Deployment – Verify scanner compatibility and scanning accuracy.
βœ… Standardize Barcode Formats – Use EAN, QR Codes, or Data Matrix for consistency.
